Privacy notice
In effect from 27 October 2026. The shop has closed; this notice covers what is still held about people who bought from it or wrote to it.
Who is responsible
The controller of personal data collected by Second Language is Ralfs Ozolins, sole trader, Bauwenberg 17, 1970 Wezembeek-Oppem, Belgium. Privacy contact: contact@wearsecondlanguage.com. Any question or request can go there. No special wording or form is needed.
This website
This page sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. Cloudflare hosts it and, like any host, processes technical request data (such as IP address, time, requested page and browser) to deliver and protect it.
What we still hold
- Order records from Shopify's checkout: name, email, telephone number if given, billing and delivery addresses, what was ordered, discount used, payment status and transaction references. Payment providers handled card or account details; Second Language never received full card numbers.
- Messages you sent us, including withdrawal form submissions, photographs of faulty items and return details.
Why we keep it
To finish what an order started (delivery questions, withdrawals, refunds and faulty-goods claims), to meet tax and accounting duties, and to protect or establish legal claims. Nothing is used for marketing, and nothing is sold.
Who has it
- Shopify holds the order records.
- Proton Mail hosts the contact inbox.
- Printify, the print provider and delivery carriers received the delivery details needed to make and send an order.
- Resend sent the email acknowledgements for the online withdrawal form while it ran.
- Professional advisers or public authorities, only where the law requires it or a legal claim needs it.
Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area. Where EU law requires a transfer safeguard, a recognised mechanism such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses applies. Ask us if you want to know which one.
How long
- Order, payment, invoice and accounting records: 10 years where Belgian accounting or tax law requires it. That duty can override an erasure request for those records.
- Customer-service messages: 2 years after the matter is closed, unless an open dispute or a legal duty needs them longer.
- Hosting logs: the short period the host keeps them for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, or receive a portable copy. Email contact@wearsecondlanguage.com and say what you want. We may ask for enough to confirm it is you, and we normally answer within one month.
You can also complain to the data-protection authority where you live or work. In Belgium that is the Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données). We would still rather fix it directly.
